ScareMail: Disrupting NSA Surveillance with Scary Emails
ScareMail is a Chrome add-on developed by bengrosser that aims to disrupt NSA surveillance by making emails "scary." This free program extends Google's Gmail and adds an algorithmically generated narrative to the signature of every new email. The narrative contains a collection of probable NSA search terms, acting as a trap for programs like PRISM and XKeyscore.
The main purpose of ScareMail is to force NSA surveillance systems to sift through nonsensical information, making it harder for them to filter out relevant data. Each email's narrative is unique, designed to avoid automated filtering by NSA search systems. By inundating the surveillance systems with meaningless narratives, ScareMail aims to protect user privacy and make it more difficult for the NSA to conduct targeted surveillance.
